Muses: Ceramicist Kennedy Grace on color, staying grounded, and going all in on her passion
“A couple months later I was laid off from my job and decided that there was no choice, but to go all in on ceramics. I loved it so much.”
Welcome to Muses, our interview series showcasing the heart, work & creative practices of women artists who inspire us.
Kennedy Grace is a ceramic artist and model based in Los Angeles, California.
The first time I came across Kennedy’s orchid mugs, my jaw quite literally dropped. They are some of the most gorgeous and unique mugs I have ever seen, and her others pieces are equally stunning. From the color combinations to the chic-yet-earthy flair, her pieces feel both sculptural and like something you'd actually want to sip your morning matcha out of.
So we sat down with her to hear more about her journey as an artist, where she is finding inspiration, what she does to ground herself, and the songs she’s had on repeat lately.
Tell us about your path to becoming an artist?
Kennedy’s signature orchid mugs
My path to becoming an artist is somewhat funny. I gifted myself a six week course for Christmas two years back just because it’s something I had always wanted to do, and I found that I was quite good at it. Almost a year later I decided to move to Los Angeles for something completely unrelated. I worked in the fashion industry and got a great job out here and put a pause on ceramics for a little while. I knew I wanted to take another beginner class since I’d only taken one so far. I just was waiting for the right time. I finally got started on ceramics and after that course decided to get my own membership.
A couple months later I was laid off from my job and decided that there was no choice, but to go all in on ceramics. I loved it so much. I had just started posting about my ceramic work, and the people loved it. From there, I really found my own personal style and it’s only blossomed. Now here we are, a little more than two years later and I’m absolutely loving it. I am now a full-time ceramic artist and couldn’t be happier.
What daily rhythms or routines help keep you connected to yourself?
I would say that doing Pilates and or walking is how I like to connect with myself and stay kind of grounded. Also I’m a really big beach person and I would say that just sitting on a beach when I need a solid reset is my go to.
How do you get yourself into a creative state? Do you have any rituals that nourish your creative life?
I wouldn’t say I have a ritual. I just always try to go into the studio with a clear mind and positive energy. It also helps that the studio I work out of is absolutely beautiful and overlooks the water.
What’s inspiring you lately?
Honestly, bright colors have always been a constant inspiration to me and I feel like I’m always seeking new color combinations and always trying to find a new way to mix colors that look beautiful.
What do you typically sip on while getting creative?
I’m a big Matcha girl 🍵
What song(s) do you currently have on repeat?
If you had a personal motto, what would it be?
I am huge on positivity and believe words are powerful. Negativity breeds negativity, positivity breeds positivity.
What projects are you currently working on that you are excited about?
I am currently working on getting a huge drop ready I am so excited! Be ready for some new pieces, orchid cups and lots of polka dots!!

The wild nature pours out endless possibilities, as a birth channel, invigorates, slakes thirst, satiates our hunger for the deep and wild life."
