The Mineral-Rich Drink We Reach for Every Morning for Glowy Skin
Want glowy skin, morning de-puffing, and deep nourishment? Meet mineral-rich overnight nettle infusions. Here's why we love them and how to make your own.
Move over, green juice! Overnight nettle infusions are the nourishing morning drink you’ll want to have all spring (and beyond).
Drinking a good overnight nettle infusion is a little like drinking in a dose of wild, vibrant, lush earth. If you're feeling depleted, if you’re in need of a good glow, and if you want to nurture your body with some vital plant-sourced, bioavailable minerals, then overnight infusions are for you.
Why Drink Nettles?
Nettle (aka Urtica dioica) is an incredibly nourishing, cleansing, and energizing herb that starts popping up during the springtime.
It’s full of chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals (calcium, magnesium, and potassium), and enzymes — kind of like a natural multivitamin. It helps balance your entire body, from your lymphatic system (goodbye, puffiness) to your digestive system to your adrenals (hello, energy). Because it’s so cleansing and mineral-rich, it promotes clear and glowy skin. And as a natural antihistamine, it can even help with seasonal allergies.
While it can be a great herb for everyone, its especially supportive for women. Nettle tea is a great thing to sip on in the week before your period, as it can help with symptoms of PMS, especially water retention, bloating and fatigue. It can also help replenish you after your period. Because nettles can actually help the body absorb more iron, nettle tea is great to drink during and right after your period.
How To Make It
In the simplest terms, you can think of an overnight infusion as a strong tea. It’s an herbal preparation that involves steeping a lot of herbs in water for a long time.
They’re good for herbs that are high in minerals, like nettle. The longer you steep your infusion, the more time the water has to absorb the minerals in the herbs.
Here’s how to make it:
The night before you want to drink it, fill a clean glass jar about 1/4 of the way up with dried nettle (we like this one)
Fill the rest of the jar with freshly boiled water
Tightly close the jar, then let it sit on your counter for 8+ hours or overnight (if you want to get witchy, you can also place it on a windowsill or outside on your balcony to steep in the moonlight)
The next morning, strain and sip! It’s best when drunk right away, but can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days.
